It has been my wish to be in the midst of a service oriented programme. I wish I should be able to extend my helping hand to as many people as possible. Those in need should get some help.
In Visakhapatnam, when I was working with Vaartha Telugu Daily as its reporting incharge for North Andhra based at Vizag, I was doing my job with a lot of zeal and service motive. It endeared me to various under previleged sections of the society.
When a real estate trader was trying to grab the land of poor Rellies opposite to Green Park hotel in Vizag, I wrote a story on this forcible eviction of poor from their sites. This created some impact and the revenue authorites were forced to go to the rescue of those poorer section families which made things difficult for the trader to go ahead with his project. He had to pay compensation to the poor for starting his project. After sometime, when he saw me in a canteen near Jagadamba junction, he made an attempt to attack me and also abused the Rellies for being assertive about their dwelling rights. When a small news item was carried about this attempt on me, there was a huge response from various sections of people in Vizag. They had conducted a protest rally in Visakhapatnam. This incident had proved one point. That if we are with the people, people too will be with us.
That is why - Let's be with the people - has become my favourite phrase.
